Fitting an exhaust-system on a 106 GTi
English version Nederlandse versie

From own experience, a weak spot in the 106 gti is the mid silencer flange. It tends to rust and break easily. Also my OMP 76mm silencer needed some replacement. Time for a whole new system. I chose a stainless steel OMP Group N exhaust system. Thanks to the peugeotperformance.net sponsor The Autosport Company voor for the good service.

First of all, the 106 has to be jacked up. Take care that the car stands good on the axle stands so that you can work under the car safely. The old exhaust system is removed in one piece (instead of three seperate parts). Use WD-40 to spray the bolds of the flange-rings. So that you can undo the bold without much problems.

The 106 GTi models from & after 2001 have a second lambdasensor just behind the catalic converter. Undo the lambda sensor, click it carefully off by pulling out the red lever (see picture). Secondly it is time for the connection downpipe - catalic convertor. For this one you need two allen spanner 10. Afterwards the whole system can be removed by pulling the rear silencer out of the rubber hinges.

Once the old tubing was lying on the floor, it was time to compare. I had to do that, because i had the intention to keep the original catalic converter. Unluckily the connections weren't a perfect fit and I choose for plan B, to mount the system with the catalic replacer. The original flanges can be used for the new system, but you can get new ones to, just to be sure. They don't cost that much and you can buy them at your local dealer. Only the bolt of the catalic converter had to go. It's been saw through and replaced by a new bolt.

Just like the old piping, the new exhaust is to be placed in one peace. Mount the three pipes on the floor. Don't forget to run in the bolts with, for instance, Never-Seez. Then mount the exhaust under the car, by first hanging the midpipe and the rear silencer in the rubber hinges, followed by fastening the cat-replacer to the original downpipe. Next, fasten all the bolts of the flanges.

Seeing that the cat-replacer is used, there is no longer place for the second lamdasonde. I used a tube with two screws welded on the hold the lamdasonde from dangling down. Secondly the lamdasonde is attached with the homemade tube to the original mounting brace.
